Feeding your Butterflies
If you transfer the butterflies from their triangular envelopes to a box or display cage, they will require feeding. We recommend the using the following:
- Watermelon
- Oranges
- Melon or Passion Fruit
- Gatorade
- Vitamin Water
- A homemade solution of nine parts water and one part sugar or honey.
In a shallow dish, simply pour any of the above liquids on cotton balls and place inside the box or display cage. The butterflies will instinctively find the cotton balls. Furthermore, you can brush any of the liquids listed above onto the side of the net cage, and the butterflies will find it.
Also, you can place organic flowers within the box, however, they must be free of any pesticides or chemicals. If you are unsure or cannot confirm the source of the flowers, use the methods listed above.
The butterflies will also need to be lightly misted with plain water. You can spray room temperature water onto the sides of the cage or box or dampen a paper towel and lay it inside the container.
